Celebrate NAIDOC Week 2026 at Our Community Walk-Shop

 This NAIDOC Week—or, rather just before it begins on 3 July—I'm inviting you to join me and the team at Brooks Community Engagement, who I've worked with for 7 years on reconciliation and First Nations advice for a special Walk-Shop on Country at the exceptional Balls Head in the heart Sydney Harbour.

This is not your typical professional development or networking event. It's an opportunity to slow down, connect, and experience Country through story, culture and shared conversation in one of Sydney's best hidden spots.

Tickets are just $20 per person, with all proceeds supporting Yanma Budjari Gumada ("Walk in Good Spirit"), a Dharug organisation dedicated to sharing Dharug language, culture and knowledge with schools, organisations and communities across Sydney.

We'll begin with a traditional Smoking Ceremony before setting out on a gentle guided bushwalk.

Along the way, I'll share stories of the Dharug people, Sydney's Traditional Custodians, introduce you to their remarkable sandstone engraving traditions, and explore their deep relationships with Country. 

Together, we'll reflect on themes of belonging, stewardship, friendship and connection, and consider what  Aboriginal knowledge systems can teach us about the way we live, work and engage with one another today.

As we all work in community engagement, we know how important a sausage sizzle is in bringing people together. So, we'll finish with what we think are contenders for Sydney’s, no, Australia's,  best sausages - perfect for continuing conversations and celebrating the spirit of sharing, connection and food as part of NAIDOC.

NAIDOC Week is a time to celebrate the histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This Walk-Shop offers an opportunity to do more than celebrate—it invites you to listen, learn and deepen your connection to the place we all call home.

Whether you're looking to expand your cultural understanding, strengthen your relationship with Country, or simply spend a nice time outdoors with great people, we'd love to welcome you.
